Once the computer is rebooted, open Design Space and try to cut a sample project to ensure that the Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker machine is detected properly in the Design Space software. Note: Design Space works only with Cricut Explore, Cricut Maker, and Cricut Joy machines. Other Cricut machines are not compatible with Design Space. Step 2: Connect the Cricut Explore Air to your laptop with the provided USB Cable. Connect the square end of the cable to Cricut Explore Air; this port will be next to power port. Secondly, connect the other end of cable to any USB port on your laptop. Step 3: Once the Explore Air/Air 2 is connected. Compatible only with the Cricut Imagine mat (discontinued). Cricut Personal & Cricut Create. Use a 6'x12' (15.2 cm x 30.4) StandardGrip machine mat. Cricut Cake & Cricut Cake Mini. Cricut Cake and Cricut Cake Mini use special non-adhesive food-safe mats (discontinued).

I had the same issue with my Cricut Explore Air 2, but couldn't post a reply to the original thread. Resetting the Bluetooth configuration is what worked for me:
Be warned that if you're on a Mac with a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, this solution may prove challenging in places.
