Game publisher Aspyr is ceasing sale of its 32-bit Mac game catalog on Tuesday, with Monday being the last day the company is offering the titles for purchase, citing Apple's shift of macOS to 64. In the Games menu there should be an option for Activate a product on Steam. Enter the code into there, and it should automagically add the game. As pointed out, I am not familiar with the MAS. If you have no CD key, then it appears you have bought the Mac-only 'Campaign Edition' version of Civ 5, which can not be linked to Steam. I upgraded to Catalina and could not play CIV 5. I saw on the ASPYR website that they upgraded CIV 5 to 64 bit on STEAM on November 14. I logged on to STEAM today 11/22 to try and play it but the game would not open.
In fact, I'd say that buying games on the Mac App Store is generally a bad idea precisely because you do not then have access to the Windows version, which you do get on Steam. Since some of the best mods for Civ 5 are Windows only, I tend to play Civ 5 on Windows using Boot Camp, But I play Europa Universalis using the Mac version. It states that there is a version mismatch between my Mac, and my friends windows. It is also putting my laptop through the works. Previously I would have the fan giving out a light whir when playing large/huge games in the late game.
